I've discovered the AS220 open life drawing workshops on Tuesday evenings and have attended the last few weeks.  The vibe in the space is laid-back and easy.  It's becoming one of my fave things to do in Providence.

Using a black pen and an 11"x14" sketchbook, I intentionally work fast.  Even when the poses are longer in duration, I will do them over and over instead of creating a finished piece.  I am enjoying the exploration of gesture and weight.  Moving my hand while observing is one of my happy places.

Along with the beach paintings, I'm still exploring portraits.  Here is another I began of two boys a few weeks ago.  This is based on a photo of my nephews, taken about 20 years ago.

Painting is 22"x28", oil on canvas and still in progress.

It's been a busy winter and spring.   I moved into a new apartment which allowed me to create a new studio in my home.

In addition the the Beach paintings, I've been working on a series based on jazz gigs as well as working from a beautiful photo taken by a friend's husband of her little boys.

This is "Her Boys", 24"x24", oil on canvas.   It is still in progress.  I began the piece last November and put it away until a few weeks ago.  Taking my time with it.

I'm behind on the updating.   Yes, I'm still working on the beach series.  I've also begun a series of paintings based on photos I've taken at some jazz performances.  In addition, I purchased an iPad mini in December and so am experimenting with iPad drawings.  Here are two of the sketches from my new toy.

After hearing from a few of you, I decided post all the sale paintings at once.   I created a page on my website.

Just go to www.mariegagnon.com and click on "SALE".
